Upgrading software
digilee (221 pencils) | Thu, 2005-09-22 11:22We just got an upgrade to Adobe CS 2, plus a few other apps.
I've got a complaint, not just towards Adobe but others as well.
This is a CS2 upgrade so when I instal it, why can it not just upgrade my old copy of, for example Photoshop, instead of simply installing a new version.
If this happened I wouldn't have to search around for all my actions, filters etc that I have installed as extras and copy them over.
Then I have 2 copies of the app and need to delete the old one.
Is it really that difficult just to overwrite the old version and keep existing settings/ filters etc?
I'm never happy am I?!

I think Adobe’s apps should install new versions for reasons of legacy. You may need to keep the old version running for a little while, especially with print software such as InDesign, if you print does not have the latest version you will need to save it down as the older version and ideally check that nothing has broken in the process.
I know what you mean and is a concern if you have an older machine with 10 or 20Gb hard drive (like my PB at home). But i would still prefer to delete the older software in my own time rather than simply overwriting it.

Maybe an option to update or install would be easier.
Update current version or install new version, (leaving the old one alone).
