Urgent: Illustrator to PDF problems - Please advise
letutor (8 pencils) | Wed, 2009-08-26 17:25When I save as pdf from an .ai file the pdf has no graphic images and is stretched vertically. Also it is magnified to 6,400%.
The get an error that says: The transparency of the source does not match that of the destinations transparency. Something like that. I haven't been able to get the pop up to come back.
I've attached the resulting pdf.
Please advise we have a big event coming up and need to get these files sent to them asap.
Thanks in advance.

Well, that kinda sucks.
First, with transparency, it's possible that you're transparency resolution is not correct. Click "Effect", select "Document Raster Effect Settings." Select all the options there that fits your output requirements.
Try fix that, and see if it works. Once that's done... come back and let us know if it's not working yet.

To the right of your page, on the pasteboard, there is a Crop Area. Go to Object, Crop Area, Release and delete the remaining box. The file should then save as a PDF properly. BTW - it opened originally for me at just over 1200%, and measured 0.4" x 0.75". Odd, as that is not even close to the size of the crop area.
Let us know how you make out.
Design1 - What do you mean by delete the remaining box? I completed the rest of your instructions.
Release the object worked. Thank you so much, I am very grateful. I am able to meet my deadline to delivery these flyers.
In exchange for helping me out if you are interested in foreign languages PM me and I'll give you a free lesson when my online language lesson site launches.
Super. So glad I was able to help.
About the box: If you scroll to the right in your document, there is a box left over from the Crop Area. It is about 4.75" to the right of the page. It was likely drawn accidentally, or is left over from something you were keeping on the pasteboard during the creation of the file. You may have accidentally chosen Make Crop Area with this box selected? You may have to drag around with the selection tool to find it, or just view your file in Outline mode.
It doesn't really matter in the end, as it has no fill or stroke, and it it outside the page dimensions, so it won't print.
have a good day!
While technically that is true, it's better to clean up your artwork before it goes to output. Everything in a file is accounted for at the RIP, so even stuff that is off the page (or hanging outside of a picture box) increases processing time. Usually it's not a big deal (depending on what type of RIP, etc...) - but it's a good habit to get into since deadlines are part of the business and the last thing you want is for something that's not even going to appear in the job to be choking your printer's RIP.
Transparency is also a nightmare for some RIPs - it's better to flatten all that stuff once the job is ready.
Jmho.
