Using Illustrator paths as bounding box in InDesign
wedgin (267 pencils) | Wed, 2006-02-15 19:08I've run across this little conundrum before, so I thought I would pose this question. Is there anyway to create a path in Illustrator, then import that path into InDesign and use it as a bounding box or mask for another image? I searched and couldn't dig up anything, so I was wondering whether it is possible, and if it isn't, why doesn't Adobe add the functionality? I know there are other ways of doing it ie. masking the image in Illustrator first, but I still want to know. Any help would be appreciated.

You can copy and paste paths from Illustrator into InDesign. They will come in as fully editable paths, and if they are closed paths you can use them as containers for text or graphics.
The only thing you have to do is make sure that Illustrator's clipboard preference is set to AICB with preserve paths. That option is located in PREFERENCES>FILE HANDLING & CLIPBOARD.

Awesome, that's exactly what I wanted. It's kinda odd that it's less a feature then a workaround, but I'll take it.
