Wanted: Foil in Photoshop

I am a yearbook advisor and my students want to get the title of our book stamped onto the cover in foil. We can't afford that, but the cover is a full-color photoshop image that I am creating. Can you help me stamp it with foil in Photoshop?

This is a link from the blog that has some free actions for effects. You might try the metal and crome actions and see if that works for you.

The problem with a lot of stuff like that (actions and filters) is that it always seems to come out looking like something that you did in Microsoft Word, which, as we all know, is ick.

that you can play with and tweak it to your needs.

I'm not sure what ya meant by foil...mine is more like metal

looking; I did it for a job a long time ago...

If it is something close to what ya r looking for I can email the psd

file, all you gotta do is look at the layers effect and type in the font of your

choice

I was thinking gold foil, not what you wrap your sandwich in.

It's up to you designers to make it look real.

Ah hell yea we have Popeye's up here in Nebraska. I can eat a Po' Boy Sammich like it's nobody's business.

Never been to a Popeye's. The closest one to me is 80 miles away...a little far to go to eat in a chain resturant.

Original poster here... I'm re-opening this discussion. The one about foil, not the one about chicken. ;)

I realized that the effect I want is really two steps:

The first thing I need to do is make the words look like they've been stamped in. That's easy:

1 - create two layers

2 - fill the bottom layer with a different color

3 - create a top layer and add type

4 - cmd-click that top layer to select the type

5 - switch to the middle layer and delete the selection

6 - turn the text layer invisible

7 - add an inner shadow to the top layer

That allows the bottom, contrasting-color layer to show though, with a shadow that makes it look stamped in. All I need to do now is find a shiny, silver-foil color.

How can I do this? Grey just doesn't cut it.

Ahhh, but you need not visit New Orleans to enjoy Commander's Palace! I had the pleasure of dining at Commander's Palace in the Alladin Hotel in Las Vegas. Tasty Cajun at its very best, IMO. With flights so cheap to Las Vegas, it's probably a trip worth taking! :o

You might try scanning in a piece of foil for the background.

Super thread resurrection, but I found this by searching, so others might find it too.
"You might try scanning in a piece of foil for the background."

Horrible advice. Use layer styles.
