Wanted: Tutorial on how to make an illustration from a photograph

Hello everyone,

I recently read an article on how to change a photo so it looks like hand-drawn. The example was shown with a picture of wild animals (an elephant and a giraffe, if I remember correctly). It had something to do with the levels or curves of the photo: Where were a few easy steps to turn a colored photo of those animals into shapes which looked like an illustration.

I thought I read it here on CreativeBits but I couldn't find it anymore. Even googeling wasn't helpful.

Can someone please provide me the link to this tutorial or could you explain the effect?

In Photoshop try Image > Adjust > Posterize is a really rough way to achieve what you're looking ofr if you're not interested in redrawing your photograph. If you have Illustrator CS2 just use Live Trace! :D
