water company logo
ilikesalsa (53 pencils) | Thu, 2005-06-23 00:08hey guys. i'm creating a logo (to be put on business cards/letterhead for a water company in an extremely small town in east texas (and when I say small, i mean less than 500 residents). they want to keep a rustic feel, as well as very simple. they don't currently have a logo or anything resembling one, so we are starting from scratch here... any ideas/feedback?

ps. i don't know why i didn't put a background on this when i saved as a .gif, so you'll just have to hit 'view original to get a better idea...
hopefully i fixed it...
well there's no grey background now... actually, it's not pulling up for me to preview anymore... :(
I had to delete it and add again. Not sure why...
I think you got the rustic feel down pat. But, maybe play around with something to do with water.. perhaps make the line below look like waves or something?
The top type is good, but you are using too much of it by using it for the subhead too. Try a plain san serif. I believe that it will look better and come across positive to the consumers.

I'd have to disagree. I feel it is too rustic. I know that's the look you are aiming for, but in today's world where the purity and cleanliness of water is extremely important for both health and image, I don't think that font (effect) helps. It does not leave me with reassuring feeling that their water will be completely safe or trustworthy. You can still keep the serif font, just loose the worn industrial effect it has.

The shadow under the star serves only to distract... it'll look much better without it.

ok, i uploaded 2 more logo concepts... i'm trying to figure out a good way to work in something water related, like an old fashioned pump or a water drop or something, but i haven't found anything that works yet...
Logo3 is just hard to read.
I wouldn't go too old fashioned with the logo, you need to portray something that is up to date too. Something clean and efficient.

i like the second one: logo.gif for it's art direction, but I'm missing an idea from the logo.
i'm trying to figure out how to really tie in the idea of the 'water company' and keep the rustic feel... i've sketched out a few old fashioned water pumps, but i'm working on keeping them in the same 'feel' as the text and layout... i'll update again once i get something i'm at least semi-happy with...
thanks for the feedback everyone!
I like the logo2.gif. It seems to get across the point to me well enough. In logo.gif, I find that the subhead copy seems too gimmicky compared to when it's dropped in size.

How about a water tower?
that's not a bad idea actually... i'd have to rough up some images of very old water towers, though... this particular town actually doesn't even have one, but they do have a spring, which is why i was leaning towards the water pump... its something very familiar to many people in the town...
