web-hosting

i've been hosting my site at MediaTemple now for a year, and I'm not that happy about what i'm getting for my money.

their speed is slow, i only get 100meg of space and so forth.

so i'm thinking about moving.

anyone have a good idea about a good place to call home?

i have been checking these guys out : brinkster.com

bummer about media temple, i was about to try them out, they looked much more professional than the cheap stuff i've been using.

Chech out http://icdsoft.com/.

I've been hosting my site with them for over 2 years

They're cheap, reliable and have a very efficient 24/7 support service.

I get 333MB of space, 5Gs of monthly bandwidth, 5 subdomains, unlimited email accounts, a MySQL database, PHP and CGI support, and pay only $45/year.

I think I paid something like $60 for my first year, but they got cheaper every year!

I don't recall my website going down once since I've been with them.

good to know, that you're not happy with MediaTemple! i was gonna move CB to them, but now I'm hesitating. there are so many options, i was gonna go for MediaTemple because it's a brand you can trust, like Nike or Coca-Cola. but it seems like we need to do out homework and do a proper research and evaluation on hosting services.

for me uptime, features and speed are the most important, price is secondary. i don't mind paying for good service. .Mac is lacking all of them. :(

my current hosting Brinkster has great features and speed, but it's down too much. price is average.

let me also point out though, that i know a few people who are very happy with MT. Speed and everything perfect... but me and a friend who signed up at the same time have these problems. It probably since we were both put on the same server, and that partivular server is slow.

I've talked to MT a couple of times, but they say the problem lies somewhere else.

I'll throw in my 2 cents here. I don't know where Brinkster is located, but their server seems to go down about once every other week since I've been on board with CB. Furthermore, the speed of CB is pretty darn slow considering the site is about 85% text.

I use iPowerWeb and have been very happy with them, but I've heard a few people aren't quite as happy as I am. I think it comes down to luck.

I've recently moved both of my sites to A Small Orange and I couldn't be happier with the service I've received.

For $5 US/month I get:

  • 400MB Space
  • 10GB Bandwidth with each extra GB at $0.50
  • Unlimited POP3 Mail Accounts
  • Unlimited MySQL Databases
  • Unlimited Mailing Lists
  • Unlimited Email Forwarders
  • Unlimited Subdomains
  • Unlimited Parked and Addon Domains
  • Unlimited FTP Accounts
  • All of that added to the fact that when I signed up, within an hour that had moved all of my data for me (cPanel settings intact) to their servers. As well, their level of customer service is held at extremely high standards. For the most part, support tickets are responded to within a half an hour, as is my experience. Speed is also great, with almost zero downtime.

http://www.dot5hosting.com is where I host and they are awesome. 1gig storage, 50gig transfer, loaded with options and for $4-$8 a month, depending on how long your hosting term is. It costs $96 for 2 years of hosting with a free domain name included. It's the best deal I've seen on hosting.
