Well, I promised....
mara06 (2549 pencils) | Tue, 2012-01-03 18:48Happy new year, y'all. This is what I wound up with for new logo/business card. My redesigned website will be up in a week or so.
The stock for this is 140# Classic Crest in whatever their whitest white is called; I always forget.
My husband says if you turn the logo upside-down it looks like a cat with whiskers. I think he drinks too much ;)
Comments appreciated, with the understanding that the job is already out there. One can always learn :)

happy new year.
it's clean. i like the font for the details, but it's not working well as the title font. overall it looks happy-new-year-1988.
HNY Mara!
I think we have to consider the fact your color palette choice is personal (the place you live, the client's background) but it'll change a lot if you make it B&W.
There is a lot of room to upgrade this concept with other type combos, you know the sky is our limit xD
yes I'm brazilian xD
MUCH, MUCH BETTER!
still says early 1990's to me more than art deco. but i can make the connection now.
Doesn't actually say "Deco" to me, either. I didn't mean it to be, although I'm obviously influenced by that style. It's funny, though: people so far have made the Deco connection immediately when they see the card.
What bothers me about the card/logo most is the stiffness of the design (not the stock, which I love). I'm a much swirlier sort of person (if that makes sense). I'm also so-so on the colors, though they can change from one venue to the next. I don't plan ever to use this in GS, although it can be done.
So, just to throw this topic out for discussion over on the Forum, what do we all think 2012 design is? I mean, so we can all avoid being mistaken for fossils ;-) I'll start a thread and hope we can get a helpful (and, knowing this crowd, funny too!) convo started.
Are the kids still saying "convo"?
Just for grins, here's a logo I almost used. Naturally, I expect it will appear here horizontally squished a bit, so please allow for that. The "G" is supposed to be teal, but on my monitor , it previews lime green. Oh well. Anyway, should I have stuck with it or was I wise to ditch it?

Hello Kitty. That was my first thought. Like it much better than any of the others - but I like the bottom one more (sorry).
agree with art, the bottom one is better. less "cutesy" than the one on your card.
as those are my personal initials, i had to try to do a type study with them in one of my first typography classes (ugh). so i know how difficult it is to match up those letters in any meaningful way.
but simple is almost always better.
Thanks, guys. I might use this second version on a re-do down the road a bit. Would lend itself nicely to a lot of things, including the embossing we talked about at one point.

im sorry. the bottom one says WIG to me.
Mmm. Yeah, I can see that. :/
