What is with the CAPTCHA after EVERY post???
onegirlcreative (1090 pencils) | Wed, 2008-09-10 00:06I just noticed (today) that after every single thread or response that I post, I have to type in a CAPTCHA every time. What gives, Ivan? This is really annoying.
At first I thought it was the fact that I was piggy backing off of my neighbor's internet (OOPSS!!!!), but now that I am back on my own, it's still doing it.
Is there any way that I can disable it?

Suz, you can't disable it as it's a server-side function (mollon.com I think). I emailed Ivan about it so we'll see what he says. i agree the CAPTCHA is being WAY too aggressive.

However, isn't there a way where once you log on with you regular IP address/screen name, can't it just be recognized from there?
I can totally understand if it's a new IP associated with that screen name (i.e. me using my neighbor's earlier today), but when I'm using my regular screen name, my regular IP address, it gets a little cumbersome.

It's based on posted content, not IP.

Hopefully spammers will find it equally as annoying
*edit: though I haven't seen a captcha at all today and this is my third post
**oh and there it is! Maybe the time between posts makes a difference

Depends how many links you have in your post. If the message is suspicious for the program it triggers captcha.
not sure it's doing that much good w/spammers, since we have a couple of posts already this morning.
was wondering what triggered it, since it seemed random until you mentioned links.
Yeah, it takes a few days for the system to learn.
I have it in my signature, so is that why? Because yesterday, I posted quite a bit and I received a CAPTCHA 98% of the time.

I have yet to make a post that didn't require a captcha, url or not.

it's cause we're two of the favs around here! :P
I haven't seen one myself. Maybe I should take advantage of that to advance my Mortgage Financing career around here! :)

They're necessary to cut down on spam, but I prefer the simple ones. I added one to my site. Any non-registered/verified user is required to do a simple math problem ( like 4+9= ? ) in order to proceed. It's there regardless of links. This also encourages people to register.
Is there any way to turn the Captcha off for registered users?
PS: I got the captcha on this post - probably because of the link in my sig. Not only that, but I can't read the damn Captcha image.

that only completely works if ivan culls the spammers who are already registered and puts in (or has put in) the captcha or an email confirmation system for activation (i don't remember if there was one, but w/the spam, i doubt there was before). a bunch of the spam we got today is from previously registered spammers.
personally i liked my idea of replacing words in typical spammer posts. so if someone puts in "mortgage" it changes automatically to "bacon." makes their posts more amusing.
- "I'd like a critique on this logo for a bacon company"
- "I think you've completely missed your target audience"

I agree with you 100%. It's like a child wrote them with their own hand. Most of the time I can figure it out, but there are those few where it has to refresh and give me another shot. Ugh!!!!

Never seen a CAPTCHA (Sp?) here before...
It must be fixed now or maybe it recognizes my IP address. IDK. But it was really annoying and happening AFTER EVERY post when I initially started this thread.
But not anymore...

Hey do not worry for that it is a type of security and also it is mainly aimed at stopping a robot post or to avoid a spam message .

they bother me too when I encounter them, and I think to myself, there must be a better way...

So sorry, I wish there was. The system now catches up to 200 spam comments every day! :)
