What did I do? Mac help.

Christopher Taylor's picture

Im a design student still getting used to my mac book pro [os x], having been raised on PC's since childhood, and have no idea what preference I changed.

When the shift key is pressed a typewriter sound appears and the shift function is locked on momentarily as an icon appears on the upper right side of the screen. This also happens with the command, option keys, etc. in Adobe programs. Can I just click that feature off? I checked my system preferences but must be missing it.

not sure, but sounds like

not sure, but sounds like Accessibility setting has been modified for some reason. Check System Preferences/Accessibility under Keyboard tab.

click that icon upper right

Click that icon on the upper right of the screen the next time you see it. Hopefully it has an option to not only find out what it is (a label of some sort) but to turn it off as well.

Its the Accessability setting

Its for the visually impaired. I had problems when that was switched on by accident and I had NO idea what was going on. Check the "Universal Access" Pane in preferences.
