What kind of camera do you recomend for a graphic designer?

ive been using an old compact digital camera of 5 megapixels ,its been ok but sometimes i would like to take pictures of things that are moving and not to get the image disorted by the speed or making lees retouch in photoshop cause the camera doesnt have much customization , and i hate the zoom that it has i messes the whole picture :_(

so what would you graphic designers recomend , im not a photographer but the image picture is such a great resource when making designs :) so im here asking.

ive seen high end digital compact cameras , slr cameras and dslr cameras but idk if they are too much for what i want or maybe my lil and old compact digital camera is what i should stick with (even if i hate it :X )

thank you very much for your opinion guys i apretiate it :D :)

Great little camera.

Depends if you want to spend £400-£500 on it though.

If not look at the Canon Powershot range.

my budget is 500$ maybe i can push it up to 600$, ive been seeing this new dslr cameras but idk if they are too much for a graphic designer , as i said b4 im no photographer just know the basics :P , gonna use it for Reference/process shots, or actual product/model shots to be printed most of the time and for fun too :P.

wow i didnt see that canon 450D and canon webpage looks awesome nice fps and raw storage :) but a bit expensive (maybe if i look on ebay :p)

I think you can get Nikon's entry level dslr for about $500. It would be a huge step up from a point and shoot.

if you want to have control of the camera and take the best pictures, even a low-end SLR will work better for you than a point and shoot.

if you aren't sure how to use it, find a local class (community college, local art studio, etc) and learn the basics. the basics aren't difficult.

any of the main manufacturers' basic DSLRs will work fine for your purposes.

one thing i *will* say is don't get caught up in the megapixel game. unless you plan on printing out your shots at 24x36, almost any current digital camera has enough MP for you. 5mp is more than enough. my main camera is a pentax 100d (6mp) and i don't remember ever having a resolution issue. what matters is a good quality sensor. many manufacturers want to bump up their MP ratings to have better specs and end up with poor quality images.

And also a 7MP Panasonic Lumix FX12 when I can't be arsed to carry the SLR.
