I live for bonfires, and drumming at their edges. Oh to be doing that now. Screw this brochure!

I'm working on that thing I posted in the Critique section a few weeks ago. It was killed for a while, but now it's ba---ack. Stephanie made a suggestion that get me on the right path. If you're interested, here's what it looks like now (thanks, Steph!):

love how the text inside the hilt has worked out, mara. very nice.
not as sure on the text in the triple bars at top and bottom work out. i'm sure the client wants all of it on there, but it's a lot of text. and the bars make it look even more crammed, since there's little space above/below the text in the white bars. makes me wonder what it would look like if you made the hilt take up a little more than 2/3 of the cover, then had a larger color field below it (or maybe above) and tried to put the two larger text blocks in that color field with a little more white space around them (it's technically one block of text, right? meant to read 'publications designed'?) .
have to repeat, i love how the rest is looking, tho. worked out perfectly.
Glad you like it. The lines of text between the upper and lower bars can either stand alone or work as all one thought. This panel is 8.5 x 11, so the text is readable, but it isn't essential. It's a way of handling boring stuff. Believe me, there's text enough in this sucker (all of which I'm writing with a gun to my head ;-)

I'm working on a website that's been on my plate for almost a year now. Here's to multi-tasking!

Technical Illustrations and some complicated photoshop work. Bleh.
House ad design for subscription rates, going through team artist submissions for The Create Awards (we're going to send off four pieces to them - it's an "inspiration assignment" getting our artists to share personal bests by entering it into a contest), prepping to launch a web redesign (that's been a nightmare of a project for several months, will be glad when it's finally over!), managerial type stuff prepping for a meeting... not a whole lot of creative stuff, really - but I did have fun going back through some of my own old projects, as I'm going to submit a few designs myself for consideration in entry to The Create Awards.
At home I've been plugging away at personal design projects, though, so I"m getting in a lot of creative work there, for sure. Kind of inspired by a bunch of happenings over at the PSDTuts web site. I did submit one thing to their flickr pool. You can take a look at it below - the rest of the stuff in my flickr pool is/are mediocre right now, though... just threw up a bunch of random stuff so I could get the minimum 5 images up there so my one image below would be public.
I'm working on my own portfolio since my company website has some works of others in it (layouts). I'm not sure if i should post the link of my portfolio, since this is my first post, but i'll do it anyway, har har:
