This is what we're dealing with out there...
onegirlcreative (1090 pencils) | Tue, 2008-09-09 18:56OK, let me preface this by saying, if it's against CB's rules to post a link to another forum, please accept my apologies, Ivan, and feel free to delete.
That being said, I thought this would make an interesting read—especially considering I was a part of this discussion.
As designers, we are CONSTANTLY dealing with amateurs attempting their "luck" in our professions without any education, etc. Only to come across clients who for some reason, don't feel we deserve to be paid adequately within our industries.
As you read this thread, you will soon find out why. It's frustrating and I am so happy that I at least had a few people to back me up. However, after seeing the ignorant and infantile responses from not just my input, but others, as well , I chose to walk away and therefore, I am debating on whether or not I want to go back (to this particular forum/site).
Read on and enjoy:

I thought it would make an interesting read. Perhaps not. :(

Reading that made me fucking angry. You can really tell the fucking wanna be designers who think mastering filters on their cracked copy of Photoshop and put a lens flare on everything including their neighbour, their mother and her fucking dog makes up for 3-6 years of schooling to learn this stuff. You posted a good response, but that is definitely not a forum I want to join, everybody seems so fucking stuck up there, on both sides of the argument!
All in all, at the end of the day, i say if you can't even post up what you have so far as your logo, then just mysteriously expect a typeface to be presented to you you're nothing short of a twat.
P.S. ARGGGH...good work sticking it to them, but some people just CAN'T be educated.

I was so disgusted by their attitudes and responses, that I basically chose to not even continue with it. Luckily, the mods closed the thread because those immature a-holes were being obnoxious and rude (i.e. "you just need to get laid").
WTF kind of response is that??? They were making it sound like none of us (who were fighting the fight) were willing to critique. On the contrary, all we wanted was the thread starter to post his logo so we could critique and suggest appropriate typefaces from there.
Schmucks.
I think that is why I am not going to return to that forum. I was so turned off by that, that I just didn't want to go back.
Thanks for taking the time to read and respond. I appreciate it.

I only read the first page but it seemed the responders were a little over-sensitive to a guy just asking for a font recommendation.

Our biggest complaint was, that the poster didn't post ANYTHING for us to critique. Just threw out this random "what font should I use" question without any brief or visual. Had you read it further, you probably would have realized that. We weren't disagreeing with the critique, as we do it all the time on here (and there, to) but the guy just came out, nothing attached, and said "what font should I use?"
How vague can you get?
I honestly think (and KNOW) that if anybody had done that on this forum, he/she would have been chastised.

Ah...such font memories will be had from that thread. Whew. And I thought some of the forums here became a little rambunctious...

It was a bit more amusing way to deal with this type of situation.

I am literally crying I am laughing so hard.
Where on earth did that thread come from? I love that nobody bitched at this guy, just went ahead and "changed" it. The porno image in the background was the BEST !!!!!!
It reminded me of that time where that person posted some stupid MySpace-type image of them and their girlfriend, and everybody (myself included) changed the image accordingly—I added the jar of vaseline. LOL
Thanks for sharing!

To me this is way to deal with responses to this type of thing on the internet. You can't get mad or up on a soap box unless you are looking for a flame war. Inject some humor into the situation and everyone comes away happy. Except for the guy who requested the free work.
It's MacRumors, so it kind of goes without saying that you're dealing with a bunch of teenagers, but dang. The guy was simply asking for some suggestions on a certain style of font. He didn't ask for anyone to DO any work, other than make a recommendation - and they jumped all over him.
I have to agree with what some of them said... designers can be smug pricks sometimes.
