Where can get prints for portfolio showcases?
fistpump (47 pencils) | Fri, 2007-09-28 17:41Hi. I was wondering where I can get high quality prints for portfolio showcase, everything from posters to packaging designs.
Online or B&M are great. Thank you.

Have you tried a printer in your area?

We only have Kinkos which is relatively expensive and Staples which is terrible. There are some local printers but they don't do couple pieces print.
I was hoping something online.
kinkos is terrible as well. I find it hard to believe that those are the only two places that you have in your area. maybe looking in the yellow pages...
life is great; without it, you'd be dead.
i have to agree with melange, if you have a kinkos and a staples, then i almost guarantee you have some sort of print shop. where do you live? i bet i can find you a local print shop online...

My local Mac dealer/service technician has a nice new device for outputting posters. Try your own people, assuming you're on a Mac.
The Staples print shop in my town is actually very good for work like this. Maybe you have more than one option in your area. Shop around and see who does the best work. Unfortunately, all the full-service commercial print shops around here only do stuff that goes on a press. Even a Direct Image printer is going to cost you plenty for a short run. Some places in the real world ;-) have banner-output devices that print onto heavy paper that are great for dry-mounting for portfolios. They even do the dry mounting for you, or you can just do your own with spray glue.
Hint: If you go to 24/7 places like Staples or Kinkos in the middle of the night, you can often find one or two sympathetic souls working there with less to do than during normal hours, and they might take on your project as something to relieve the boredom, putting more than the usual amount of work into it to get it looking good. Bring candy.

that's not a bad idea AT ALL!!! infact, that's how i got through college. the local blueprinting shop was run by students from another school, we'd go at 2am and bring em a few beers adn they'd do the printing for free while we took a 20 minute nap on the couch in the front.
mind you, shops these days all have cameras so i don't suggest beer. but it's just a matter of finding the right ammunition to get free or cheap printing with a little more care like suggested by mara..
you're on the outskirts of L.A. i'm SURE you'll find a few gems
