Where to put a slideshow in the head ? :(
cosmos (30 pencils) | Sat, 2007-09-08 15:46This design is almost done,, but now, the client wants that I put some slideshow gallery in the head, (that part with the guy and descriptions of teakwondo).. I sad him that the slideshow there isn't best solution, but he insists.. any idea?
i was thinking, put some grunge border on the flash gallery and put it in the left corner, but I dont know,, i want to put this work in my portfolio later :)
Thanx

Does he want to ruin the design and have potential customers running away in droves?! If you believe doing as he asks will be detrimental, why not tell him so? You are the designer, and your professional opinion matters.
But, to accomodate his need (if it comes to it) you would either crate a flash or animated gif where the second section is (or an asp ad rotator) in the "Try or do not..." area. You could even have one side be static (non moving) for that "Try" message and the other half be the slideshow.
Tell your client that he doesn't have to show everything on the home page. That's what the subsequent pages are for.

And what if you let the visitor decide if he wants to start the slideshow or not... The illustration you see know can be the first one, but add a "play" button to start it.
Or only make it play when the visitors hover it...
I think that I will put it above the "contact" section on the right.. small gallery 170px max width. because the solution in the middle head sucks :(

Try condensing the control buttons into drop downs and then ad a slide show marque rolling to the right..just an idea
There's no reason why you can't rotate image like the current belt one. Find more TaeKwonDo images and deep-edge them. There's no reason why rotating images can't come off nicely. Personally, I think you can do it while maintaining the design's integrity.
Design is not proving the customer wrong, it's taking the customer's idea and making it work.
It sounds to me (and I could be wrong) like the customer wants some movement in there. Nothing wrong with that. A slow, revolving, fade-in fade out will work. If on the other hand the customer wants "a slideshow" containing pics of events, practise etc. that's a whole nother story.
And that's my two cents.
