Which IM do you prefer?

Just wondering, when chatting online with your friends, which Instant Messenger do you prefer? I only ask because I know it differs all over the world.

I use MSN, iChat and Skype.

Guess I wasn't that clear on the question . in that case I use MSN and ICQ. I don't think I know many people that use iChat or even AIM.

I use AIM, Yahoo, and MSN, but mostly the first two. Of course, I run them all through Adium.

To chat with friends from Romania and Siria I mainly use Yahoo, for friends from the US I use AOL and for Canadians, I use MSN.

Every place has it's preferences and I have to have all 3 opened at home all the time.

I'm not a big IM user, so to keep things simple, I use iChat. It serves all my needs just fine.

I use AIM through Adium. Seems more feature-rich than iChat, IMO. It's not as friendly with file transfers as iChat is nor does it do video-conferencing (I think), which is fine because I don't have an iSight and neither does anybody else I know.

Simply an iChat user since I switched from AIM and a PC!

I like to have several ways for people to contact me... AIM, Y!M, and MSN tend to be the major players, so I have accounts on all three.

On my PC, I use only Trillian to manage all the accounts.

On my Mac, I use iChat for AIM, and then the Y!M and MSN Mac clients. I really wish iChat could utilize other protocols.... I love it to death.

Besides that, I occasionally use Hello on my PC, and Skype on both the PC and the Mac. But only when I need them.

I use AIM, and once I get a PC suitable for it, I'll be using Trillian as well.

I've tried Audium and liked it, but for my multi-protocol needs, I use Proteus.

It doesn't work with all of the advanced features such as direct connect in AIM or video conferencing, but it's good for basic stuff.

I have accounts on AIM, MSN, and ICQ. I use AIM to chat with friends who live locally. I use MSN to chat with people that I work with internationally. And I use ICQ to chat with some people I know from a computer repair shop down the street from me. My favorite is without a doubt MSN. It's so easy to use, there are no ads on the buddy list, and it has file transfers and video conferencing that actually works. That’s all going to change once I get my iSight though. Hopefully Proteus will add video support soon.

Proteus is pretty much dead now, with no support from the company who bought it from the creator [who sold Proteus and went to work for Apple].

I have friends using AIM, Yahoo, MSN - so I use Adum.
I find the only reason people use MSN is because it's on their PC.

I use Adium to connect to AIM. Everyone I chat with uses it, so I don't really need anything else. I would use iChat for the nifty way it shows your currently playing iTunes song as your status, but no one else I chat with has a Mac.

Oh, and I also use it because I like to have all conversations tabbed in one window.

A good MSN client is the most important for me. After playing around with everything from the official client to aMSN, I have settled on Adium. Adium is great and very feature rich, plus looks amazing. I also use iChat for AIM/AOL users, as well as video conferencing with my iSight. I also use Skype- a great program it is!

Use ICQ for a past few years. Just a few days ago I tried to replace with AIM, it looks fine and seems to be compatible with ICQ. But had no success, the AIM did want to connect.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Meebo yet. Great service and you can link to nearly all of your possible chat clients in one go - awesome.

Of course I simply scanned through all the replies but I didn't see Pidgin, that's what I use so I only need one program to handle all of the chat clients rather than downloading 4 or 5 different ones.
