It is Emperor Palpatine. A lot of people have noticed that the new Pope bears a strong resemblance from the most evil guy from Return of the Jedi.

Ok, first let me say: I'm not Catholic!! Now, I do think everyone is being kinda hard on the poor guy. I surely wouldn't want his job...

Anyway, those pictures are incredible!! lol. He does look a lot like the "zappy finger guy" from the original trilogy!! Wow.

Yes he does look like Emperor / Senator Palpatine from the new and classic trilogy. (yes im a sw geek).

its rather unfortunate as he already has an image problem for being a conservative and unswaying in his views on the church this doesn't help his image either. Im sure hes a nice guy just got some bad pr.

P.S. Can you believe it STILL hasn't been fixed? Usually Wiki is very prompt with corrections and undoing mischief.
