Why Wait Webs Business Card - Round 2
luminousnerd.com (148 points) | Mon, 2008-10-20 23:55Here's 4 more designs (really 2, with variations). I played around with lighter colors as suggested, and I believe I may have found some ways to make the clock work, contrary to what I said before. Removing all the unnecessary elements helped with that as well of course. I really appreciate all the comments on the last critique.
I think I'm definitely getting a lot closer with these, but I'd still appreciate your critique on them. I'm kind of leaning towards the top left one right now. Hierarchy seems to be there (to me, love to hear your comments), and I like the bit of whitespace in the top right that the others don't really have. But there is something to be said for the extreme close-up of the clock.
There are of course, tons of different variations of the 4 I posted, these were my favorite 4 combinations but I can get very different looks by adjusting the size and position of the elements. Let me know if you think a different positioning scheme would be better -- or, if you think I need to go back to the drawing board again.
P.S. Did anyone notice that the hands are in a W shape? *cheesy grin*
Thanks,

I like both the vertical and horizontal versions for their simplicity. While both designs look great, be warned that your personal info is going to be too small when printed, you have enough room to make the info legible for people who can't see so well, and bigger type will print clearer too.

I think this have gone simpler than the previous ones you did, and that's great, they look much better.
The picture in the background is fine, consider pushing its center to either side, since leaving the picture perfectly centered will look rather boring.
My favorite option right now would be top left, I like how the picture is to the side, and it leaves a space to the right, with that in mind, here's an idea: how about, instead of having that dark gray rectangle on the bottom, you bring your name and contact info to where the logo is, make it slightly bigger and put your name in orange, make your name slightly bigger than the rest of the contact info. Then move the logo to the top right and keep the W (or wings, they look like wings to me) and the "why wait webs" be the same color maybe under the W trying to find a perfect fit. I don't to tell you how to do your thing, i guess it's just my own personal approach to it, i figured it might help.
anyway, that's just an idea i had, if it doesn't work, it doesn't work, One thing i'm not too crazy about is on the logo how you have the name and the shape so distant from each other, i don't know what reason you have for that but it seems to me that they just look like they have nothing to do with each other. I remember a teacher of mine used to say that one rule of design that always works is Color pulls color, so if you have one element orange, you might want to use the same orange to tie things together or to tell the reader where to look next, right now, you have one orange element, to balance things a bit more consider the same orange to add emphasis to important elements, but without overpowering the logo, (your name might be the second must important thing in the BC, first, the name of the company, then, the name of the guy that i'm calling, it makes sense) other than that the rectangle, i wish there was another way of handling that part, how about making it solid color ( no transparency) i don't know.
Overall, everything looks much cleaner and that's great, the clock looks nice, but remember center=boring. Try using the orange to balance things out and add emphasis, i like the gradient, it looks sophisticated, not to crazy about the rectangle try to explore other options you don't have to get married to one shape in particular. I still love those nice little wings!
