Jammo (0 points) | Thu, 2005-10-06 14:01Ok I've seen this ad in a magazine but I really dont understand it... does anybody else?
Visually its a great ad, but it doesnt make any sense?!

why is the fire on on a sunny day?
why is it in a field?
whats the relevance of the dog?

Maybe they were counting on frustrated readers posting it on internet forums trying to make sense of the ad. ;)
Sorry, I have no idea what is going on...

What if... the dog can enjoy himself infront of the fire, no matter where he is?

So??? Nah, that's not it.
...the fire is so clean-burning that the air will remain fresh inside your house - almost as if you were on a cliff top out in the open. The dog is just there to demonstrate how wonderful he feels by jumping in the air (the fresh air!), and because people associate dogs and fires with a cosy homes.
Hm I think the answers behind it is..
why is the fire on on a sunny day?
If you look closer you'll see a sea in the background which is cold and windy and I'm almost certain that you need something to stay warm to stand there for a while, even on a sunny day..
why is it in a field?
Dunno about you but here in sweden we use pellets which are make from often oat, so the grass or whatever it is down at the picture could resemble that, but it doesn't have to be the specific oat thing, just something close..
whats the relevance of the dog?
Link to humans, dog is humans best friend people often says and it's obvious if the dog is happy, your'e happy :)
why the dog jumping?
It's standing on two legs, it might be a illusion to think of it as a human but it's not, it's your best friend, which is a dog.. It would be better though if a ball or something were visible to our eyes, it would be more easier to explain to yourself why the dog is standing on two feets..
Whats going on ? !
Well you could perhaps sum up this ad by this line.. Even if it's chilly & windy on a sunny day, there always place for Charnwood fireplace, even your dog agrees to that, so what are you waiting for.. Phone us now!
Dude... get out more LOL

Maybe its just a bad bad bad ad. It was made by the owner's kid who considers himself to be an adverising whiz, has no friends and the only one he hangs out with is his dog, the one pictured in the ad.
But the thing is, maybe this works.. i mean we are all posting abt it and trying to figure out what the hell the ad is abt... visually, this does break from the norm.. no hot chic, or red cars, fancy graphic of any sort... a bleak landscape with a stove.. the dog get thrown in for cuteness factor.
but its bizzare for sure. What magazine did it appear in?
cant remember the name of it, but it was some sort of home interest magazine.
I have to admit, the advert got my attention but it was for the wrong reasons. I was talking to a collegue and we agree that the designer behind the advert obviously has skills, the artwork side of the advert is great but the message is far far far far from clear.

I think the stove is probably in this situation to highlight the fact that it is free standing and does not plug in to any utility supply (gas/electric). Meaning it portable, so you can place it anywhere.
A bit far fetched I know but you could even take it for a walk with you dog to keep you warm ;)

Guys, if you look in their site you could see some other images along the same line as this one.
So I was thinking, is that perhaps what they are trying to say is that in an perfect location with a perfect view such as the one on the ad, the first step or the foundation in building a home is their stove, and it is so good that even the dog who usually plays by the fireplace, feels happy in an open field, because the stove makes it feel like home, like the house was already there.
Just a thought...

I agree with Evangelista. The ad does say it is clean burning, so it is outside in a natural environment that it wont harm and the dog is so darn happy we aren't polluting his world he decided to jump up and bark happy barks.
perhaps the company is owned by a ma & pa outfit and they just like their dog. ya all know the type. often seen on local ads on the tele...
my 2 cents
