I have posted many pieces for critique on this forum. I feel as though I have learned a lot (although this piece might not show it yet) and I wanted to commend the videos on graphics.com
thanks

It's too pointy and spiky. It's not pleasant. Try to soften it up a bit.
If the name is "Square pages" - how come all the pages are triangles?
Just a thought...
What is the concept behind this? is it suppose to be a literal translation of the pages on a directory book? I would work on developing a more impressive concept, it's the foundation of your entire design execution. This seems like it was thrown together rather quickly. The thickness of the lines are 2 different sizes and it doesn't even look like you actually looked at the way pages flip through a book.
This is awful.
Sorry...agree with aroberts. I think you need to begin again at the sketch book stage.

mmmh taken on board what you are saying. I am a little disappointed especially because a lot of thought went into it. One reason I really like it is because it doesn't have the obvious "square page". The L shape of the book is squared ie same length up and across, and I actually took a square book to study and I drew the pages as they were from the perspective they looked the best. The concept also came from the idea of illustrating success using a graph that goes up from the axis. Also from the idea of balance - scales- fair. Ya the thick lines and thin lines were deliberate as I wanted the pages to appear as though they were in blocks rather than single pages. I tried the more floppy page thing and I though a more geometric shape was better seen as it's on screen rather than on paper. I have a few more concepts..want to see? Another thing I love about this design is that it reminds me of a shoulder pad of armor of a squire who carries the banner. I'll post the other ideas if you don't mind.

*cringe*
You say a lot of thought went into it, but the problem is the execution. You have good concepts, but it's putting it on paper first that you need to do. Get away from the computer. Just try it. Grab a pencil and a pad.
Why the heck do people have such a problem with sketching first?
