Time for a little end of the year fun. :)

That's hilarious...

It's funny because Keith Olbermann LOVES to show that clip over and over on his show (the Miss America clip, not TODAY). So it's interesting (to say the least) to see her response to it. LOL

Actually I read somewhere

Actually I read somewhere that creatives are usually not the brightest nor people with average intelligence.

The reason is very smart people need to entertain themselves with more complex problems that are not typically found in our profession. Unless you do it on an extremely high level of course.

Very smart people become theoretical scientist and philosophers, because in those areas their intellect is challenged.

But, to be a good creative you have tohave higher than average intelligence. There are too many things one needs to consider when making the simplest designs decisions. An average mind can't deal with it. Just take a simple example of choosing a color combination. A rush of dozens of things flow through our minds in a matter of seconds when we evaluate the choices.

I don't think that's

I don't think that's accurate. Meanwhile, my friend (and colleague) got a full ride scholarship to any school... and she majored in graphic design, double major in advertising, and a minor in marketing. Sometimes it's just about what you like to do.

I can't confirm whether it

I can't confirm whether it is true or not.

yikes! that's a scary

yikes! that's a scary outlook on our industry. as an art director i find that my job is much less based on being a designer and much more based on being a problem solver, which i like to think is suited to people smarter than this girl.

i don't think any of my co-workers, whether writers, ADs or designers, would have too tough of a time pointing out our weak educational system, typically US-centric world view, or the low priority many americans attach to education as possible reasons many "US-americans" might not be able to find their own country on a map.

then again, it could be because advertising is so convincing that people no longer care about education and instead only care about "things".

Well wasn't that the best she could do ...

... after all, unusual advertising works better. ; )

She's certainly more famous now...

If she would have given a more coherent answer, I'd have never even known a Miss South Carolina even existed.

Maybe she's much smarter

Maybe she's much smarter than we think she's. She planned the whole YouTube viral thingy, playing on the dumb blonde stereotype.

If she gets her own talk show

If she gets her own talk show, then we'll know the truth.

She'll be the intern...

...that can't follow directions, help with preparing for a presentation or trim with an xacto blade to save her life. The kind we all mock when we send them home early.

Pity. . .

. . . Because we live in a Dilbert world and THOSE people become your clients or bosses! LOL

Have a Happy New Year everyone!
