robbie (356 pencils) | Wed, 2009-10-21 16:50Heres a new one,
dot com company taking products and producing digital photos for marketing and web purposes.
I wanted to get a feeling of taking a product and processing it to achieve the photo, without using an identifiable shape or the shape of a camera!!!!
i want to keep the logo to black and white or grayscale as i feel this has a photographic feeling to it.
these are some 'cleaned up' versions of sketches
many thanks

No. You need to research photography, then come up with a concept. Nothing says phtography in this logo. I could go out on a limb and say the shapes represent film ( first, *maybe* second), but it would be a very long and narrow limb. The fact that it's a web only company would push me off said limb.
There's a great concept in this and potential for a smart logo.

This only has a photographic feeling to it if you specialise in black and white photography.
I don't think you are looking at the logo from your clients' POV. They aren't interested in the process of photography, that's too abstract - they want quick, cheap product and pack shots (I guess). I'd concentrate more on making the logo sell the company's values and services, and making them memorable. Maybe start around the camera, lens, studio or lights, and go from there.
Hey robbie, let's try something. Come up with 20 words that come to mind when you think photography, and I'll do the same. See all the ideas that flourish from that brainstorm.

That reminds me of the test strips we used to run on imagesetters - not photography. Is that the company name? "Your Product Photography"? Sounds too generic to me.

That's good, now you have sixty keywords you can use alone or together to come up with the logo...work by elimination some won't be useful whereas some will or might inspire other ideas. But there you have it. My next step would be to draft up a few thumbnails, about 40 or so, based on some of these words...

you can use circles and initials :]
yes I'm brazilian xD
I love SNAP. It has the photo tie-in, plus the (snap your fingers) instant-gratification angle. There is presently a hip term that might cloud the issue, but I'm sure that will fade quickly enough; meanwhile, at least it isn't obscene or anything.

Same with "click". Both have a kind of beatnik-cool association to them.
This is the kind of project I love to sink my teeth into. It deserves a wonderful solution.
