Deauthorizing iTunes

ttaylor's picture

I don't know if anyone else has this problem or if the solution has already been posted, but here we go!

I was having a problem with iTunes. I had already activated 5 accounts and was stuck, none of my purchased MP3's would work anywhere else. I thought that there had to be a way to fix it.

None of my previous computers were in my hands (2 were old work computers, 1 is my old computer at my parents house and 1 was on this computer when my HD fatally crashed, not giving me a chance to ever deauhtorize it.. and this fifth is my current computer)

So I went searching and amzingly the guys over at Mac OS X Hints had just found how to do it.

It's really much more simple then I ever thought it would be.

When you login to the Apple Music Store from iTunes, you just have to click your account name in the top right corner. It will bring you to your account info and if you have 5 computers authorized a button will appear that will allows you ro deactivate all of your accounts.

The button won't appear if you don't have 5 auhtorized computers and you will only be allowed to use this feature once a year.

Hope this helps someone, it certainly helped myself out.

Oh wow, I didn't know

Oh wow, I didn't know that!

I lost an authorization when reformatting my PC once. I didn't realize at the time that I had to deauthorize first. It was only one auth, but I don't like to lose them now so I talked to someone at the Apple support site and they reset them for me. Interestingly enough, I was still using an auth code, so even though I now had all 5 of them available to me, for a short while I technically had 6 auth codes that I could theoretically be using. I don't remember what I did though, but the one that was originally authed was eventually reset somehow.. but I thought that was kinda funny.

You can also just call Apple

They will de-authorize computers for you as well.
