I’m sure you heard about the Folding@home, here is a snippet from Team Mac OS X, which is the fastest Mac team:

The process of protein folding, while critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, remains a mystery. It is known that when proteins do not fold correctly, there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer’http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifs, Mad Cow (CJD), ALS, and Parkinson’s disease. By running the Folding@Home client on your computer, your spare processing cycles can help find a cure for these diseases!

Here are the applications you can use to start folding, but I would particularly recommend using InCrease (. It’s a great little app that enables you to fold proteins without any user intervention in the background. Once you start it, you won’t even notice it’s running. You will however contribute to a noble projet that one day might save your or your loved ones life and can help to discover new technologies.

If you have any problems or questions, post them here or at the Team Mac OS X forums. Folks will be happy to have you around and help you out. There are many teams around there and it doesn’t matter which one you join, you can even fold without joining a team. It all benefits the same good cause.

Fold on!
