Tiger Dashboard

Tiger is far from being released but a site with Gadgets is already out.

In case you don't know Dashboard is a feature of Apple's future operating system, Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger". Using Apple's Exposé technology, Dashboard is comprised of multiple "gadgets", which are essentially mini-applications. I think it's an exciting technology and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

You can get your hands on it right now, in the form of Konfabulator (http://www.konfabulator.com). Looks like Apple totally ripped them off, except Konfabulator is here now, and it will run on Jaguar and Panther as well as Tiger.
i've tried using konfabulator a couple of times... but it's really hard on my computer, so i always give up. i agree that this is ripping of an idea, but hopefully apple can do so it won't be as tough on my darling computer...

Dashboard is similar to Konfabulator but it is also very different. Its supported by the OS at the OS level as opposed to a add on program. Konfabulator is Java based which can make it slow on slower systems. Dashboard is based on XML which will allow it to be snappier on a wider range of systems. Yes the idea is a rip off but it is a better implementation.
To get Konfabulator you have to pay, yes to get Dashboard you will have to buy the 10.4 upgrade but most are going to do that any most probably. If you buy a new mac that ships with it then you will get Dashboard for free. I think its a great deal!
What's a ripp off? C'mon! Konfabulator is not an original idea in itself. Many companies released packages of little apps before. It's nothing original. I'm not discrediting K, because I love it, I just think it's too slow on older machines.

"Dashboard is based on XML which will allow it to be snappier on a wider range of systems."XML is merely a tagged text format. An application which utilizes documents in XML format does not automagically become "snappier."
Theres another widget site become available, www.mywidgets.net. They've got a post up saying they are doing something with The Dashboarder...could be interesting.
