Cape Wine & Leisure Tours

This is a logo for a Tour Operator in Cape Town. The client wanted a modern yet stylish feel. Even though I've been slamming my head against the concrete this is the strongest concept I could come up with. A Wine glass relaxing in a soft chair - Wine & Leisure

I've rendered the logo with various font options. If anyone recognises "Alien League" it's because the customer requested it. I don't feel it's strong enough, but placed it here none the less. (#.7)

I've also given the CMYK, Spot and B&W renderings. These are not final draughts so I realise there are some leading issues.

+++ I've attached a copy of the "mock" for the signage on the side of the shop. This was done according to customer specification. I'm not happy yet, but the deadline is upon us and it's just not "gel-ling" yet.

I think the typography in #8 is the most successful. I'm not 100% on the mark, but i'm not hating it. What i think bothers me the most on all the other ones, is how the type is either on top of - or over top of the logo. It makes it all feel very forced and kind of ugly. that being said, #8 would look better if the couch was the same size as the type. It would give it a nice verticalness (if that's a word).

Hope that helps a bit

life is great; without it, you'd be dead.

I was struggling with the same thing while I was doing it - text over image - and you'r right, it's ugly that way. And I agree, #8 looks the best so far. (Lining up will happen).

I think you need to simplify the design. Right now it's not really saying "modern yet stylish". I could see this illustration used to accompany an editorial piece in a magazine or something like that. But as a logo it's just not working. With all the transparency it could easily become muddled. Maybe try coming up with varying concepts, keeping simplicity in mind.

These logos are very busy. What kind of tours? Boat? Plane? Bike (hope not)? Might help us know what kind of tours for better info.

I agree that you need to simplify. How about just having the text in a block and having the wine glass be a sort of stick figure that's leaning up against the block of text sort of 'leisurely'.

They organise day trips that include: Wine Tastins, Whale Watching, Shark Cage Diving, Scenic Passes, Safaris, and Chocolate. Wine is however the main attraction in this part of the world, so wine will have to be the focal point.

They also do bookings for Accomodation, Spas, Arts & Culture, Transfers and Heli and Jet Flights.

I like the wine leaning idea. This job came in very disorganised and rushed. I started out sourcing stock images for them, and then jumping to doing the signs. The afternoon before the deadline the owner says; "Maybe we need a logo of some kind." GASP!!! (This has been in the back of my mind, but since they never asked for it, I didn't give it much thought.) I would have prefered to spend a coupe of weeks working on branding the whole shop, but since it's a "Maybe you can work on something this afternoon and show us when we see you at 5pm." (since it's 12pm now, that should be enough time.)

Now my mind is spinning: Simplify, simplify!!! I'll give it a go.
