Dreamhost promotion

Ivan's picture

Creativebits is partnering with Dreamhost for a savings promotion. If you're looking for a hosting company join now and save US$80 on a yearly plan and US$40 and US$60 on montly plans. Creativebits is also getting USD$17 for each of you who signs up for a yearly plan.

Just go to Dreamhost to learn about their services and sign up using the promotional code: "CREATIVEBITS" to take advantage of the offer. They offer several one click installs for several different web site engines, so you could be running your brand new site in a few minutes without any hassle:

Now, you can have unlimited number of domains hosted on your account, so you can run all your sites from one account for no extra cost. You also get one new domain for free if you don't have your domain registered yet. The space and bandwidth is generous and you have shell access and all the features you can dream of, such as WebDav or .htacccess management.

I'm with Dreamhost for more than a year, so I pretty much know it inside out, so ask away any support questions you may have.

What about the speed?

Creativebits is often very slow, which leads me to some concern about using Dreamhost. Script speed and database access time are critical to me when choosing a host, especially when running a CMS or shopping cart system.

Otherwise, they do look like a great service.

Creativebits is one thing.

Creativebits is one thing. :) I'm playing too much with different settings. It was slow for many weeks, because we had our own compiled PHP running on CGI instead of using the standard Apache PHP. NOT a good idea with a site like cb. Too much traffic for it.

I had a several downtimes with Dreamhost in one and half year, but not too much. Much less than my previous hosting. Recently they went down for several hours when the power was cut in LA. But, so as many other hosting companies went down too. They promised to review what happened and how they gonna prevent such thing happening in the future. We will see what they will come up with.

Many people say that DH is one of the most reliable services. Reviews are very good generally.

No hosting is 100% perfect, but you can aim for a certain high level of features, support and stability that goes with a good price.

It would be interesting to see speed comparison tests.

What exactly is the discount?

Hi, Dreamhost is a good service, I use it for several of my sites and the support/security is great, although that sometimes impedes my work. ( They recently stopped allowing direct php includes which made me switch to another host. ) They're still my #2 favourite hose though.

Question, - how much is the cost of sign up with this new offer? I thought it was about $US90, do you mean to say with the new discount its $10 now?

thanks,

Magomed

Ivan's picture

that's right, except it's not $90/y

For example if you sign up for one year - instead of $119 you only pay $39.

That's a superb deal

That's a superb deal. I hadn't realized from your original post that it brought the total pricetag right down to that sum. Subtract your $17 cut and I really have to wonder how they're going to make any money off the offer.

Ivan's picture

Because they are hoping you

Because they are hoping you are going to stay with them the next year, when you will have to pay the full amount.

They have a great affiliate

They have a great affiliate program as well. You get something like $50-60 with every new account that refers you.

Ivan,Looks to be a good

Ivan,
Looks to be a good deal.I'm not getting a great deal from my current hosting company and my main needs are bandwidth and space. The Wordpress and Mambo features are good as I've only recently got Mambo up and running on the Powerbook. (very good tutorial getting Mambo running locally at http://www.idevgames.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-9291.html)

A few questions?
What's are their stats packages like? AW Stats?Webalizer?
I see they offer a merchant licence with one of their higher options. Have you played around with the options at all?I'd like to integrate some simple e-commerce on my site for design payment instead of the hassle of PayPal.
Is their email support helpful or the offhand official type?

They use this stat engine:

They use this stat engine: http://www.analog.cx/

I never tried the merchant option, but I'd like to try it out. Would be nice to offer a simple credit card payment option for clients.

Email support is exceptionally good. You can rank the importance of your support question and critical ones get a response and solution within hours. I never tried out the live chat, but I don't think it's fully operational at the moment. They have a pretty good forum and knowledge base, where 99% of the questions are answered.

awstats

I've installed awstats on my dreamhost account, it wasn't that hard, they give you step by step in their wiki but won't officially support it i guess

Great deal!

I've been a rather passive visitor for quite some time now, but in this case I feel the need to finally post something. Thanks for the great tip! I registered with Dreamhost today (using the creativebits referral of course!) and it seems like just the type of hosting I've been looking for, loads of space for setting up a decent photo gallery (using the excellen Gallery v2 script) and enough bandwidth.

Thanks donhomie and all the

Thanks donhomie and all the others who signed up. Make sure to show off your new site if it's public once it's up and running.

From a Recent Convert...

That IS a great deal. I switched my personal sites over to dreamhost back in July. A lot of the positive things you hear about them come out of the fact that everybody wants to make referral money. If you refer someone who pays full price you can get up to $97!...but they really are a great host. One nice thing about them is that they are always improving their plans, and when they do, you get grandfathered in. When I signed up for the "Crazy Domain Insane" plan it was limited to only 3 fully-hosted domains. Now they've made that unlimited...which is great since I'm already using 3. Even though I got a good deal on the first year, I'll be happy to pay the full price from here on out and would definitely recommend them as a good webhost.

Ivan's picture

Yes. Good point. We

Yes. Good point. We constantly getting free upgrades. I think unlimited databases is also quite an amazing thing. I had only ONE database allowed in my old hosting company and it is more expensive and less reliable than Dreamhost. It's Brinkster I'm talking about and I still retain them, because I have one clients site running on ASP, which I'm moving soon to Dreamhost as well, so that I can get rid of Brinkster.

And if you did sign up you can refer your friends to get a kick back. I know of a person who made a thousand bucks in a week signing up all his clients to Dreamhost. This not only allowed him to invest in a new machine, but also gave him the option to have all the accounts managed from one single control panel.

Because there is one very important and interesting feature with Dreamhost. You can grant or get access to different account other than your primary account. This way you can manage a clients or friends account without getting to know their password. Once the job is done, they can just withdraw the access and that's it. Very useful in a working environment.

Sounds better than Fasthosts

Although i have had no problems with my fasthost reseller account this does sound like a good set up. Is the control panel any good? One of the things I like about my fasthost accouont is that I can set up a new site in minutes and it all comes out of the same account.

I'm still really happy with all the personal sites I host at Servage where I get a great deal for what you get. I've also been doing some testing on fairly complicated PHP/MySQL stuff and the server is very responsive. I love having unlimited DBs too, makes it so much easier to do testing. Also if you click the link below i get a little kick back also :)

Also a nice touch i only just found out about is that for every day you stay with servage you get an extra 10Mb of server space.

FYI,

Servage now offers 250GB + 25GB with coupon code: "25gbextra" (i.e. 275GB total) and 2100GB Monthly Data transfer rate. Also, unlike some other famous hosting companies, they do not expose you to unlimited bandwidth charges (i.e. there is overage protection).

I can't seem to find where to enter the promotional code :(
I've been in the market for a web host for a while now, and this sounds like the perfect opportunity.

Just signing up and you will

Just wanted to let everyone know that Coupon code: CUST18885 will let you have $10 off your order. In my opinion it's a little better than the other ones.

This is the same discount

This is the same discount that you get with "CREATIVEBITS" promo code. Except that with the dreamhost promo code you are giving back the referral fee to dh.

Agree with arvana

Yes Ivan, but it is not about us not using their cods, but about them not being a part of such a great community as CB. I think people like them shouldn't be allowed to post here.
