Strategic swearingI use this tool in meetings all the time, in fact, we actually train people on the value of it. I simply slip in a subtle "shit" near the beginning of the meeting e.g.
"Yeah, the weekend was great thanks, although the weather was a bit shit"
I generally say the shit part in that loud whispery tone, with the mouth stretched wide and the eyebrows raised, you know the one.
Then a funny thing happens, everyone else sees they have permission to swear, everyone else does, everyone relaxes and speaks in a fashion more conducive to strategic conversation, and I get the work. Really. Try it.

Shit!
Somehow, as I sit in front the board members of Blue Cross Blue Shield (the largest health insurance company in the country), who make millions of dollars between them, I don't think a "subtle" shit will go over well... but I could be wrong. :?
But hey, it would probably work in an inter-office meeting... but we say a lot worse things than that anyway.
