HELP! External Hard Drive will not mount
Charlie D (384 pencils) | Thu, 2006-07-27 01:45Hi everyone, big problem. My firewire external harddrive will not mount. Was working perfectly fine and now this! Ran disk utility, harddrive is recognized, ran repairs...said it repaired, but still will not mount. I have tons and tons of important files on there any suggestions on how to access my harddrive? I am going to try my mac at work and see what happens tomorrow. Any suggestions so I can get some sleep? Thanks!

Sounds like a bad directory. I'd recommend running DiskWarrior 3.02 to try rebuilding the directory file on the drive. I've had similar problems in the past and if the drive is recognized it's always seemed to fix the issue.
Good luck and hopefully this will convince you to invest in another external for backup.
i had a problem like this a few months back after i accidentally set the permissions on on the drive (through the "get info" window) to "no access"
i was horrified, and thought i had lost a huge chunk of my artwork. after a good search around the 'mac'web I found the answer to my problem here

this fixed it with no problems
hope it helps

With the help of Data Rescue II. Great product. Thanks for the suggestions, Disk Warrior would not work. Didn't see your post until after the fact artist-illustrator but thanks anyway. If all else fails folks, drop the $99 for Data Rescue II...all you need is another HD with as much space as what you have on there.
