iPad and updating CMS sites

I'm looking into purchasing either an iPad or a MacBook Air for the purpose of updating CMS sites while on the road. Particularly sites in Drupal and WordPress.
I would prefer an iPad. I'm looking for the least expensive, lightest option. I don't need to do a ton of heavy graphical work, just be able to make edits to pages and upload files.
That last part... "upload files"... is where I find I may be stuck with a MacBook instead of an iPad. Currently iOS doesn't seem to allow for Safari to browse its system to locate and upload files through at least Drupal's CMS (I'm not sure about WordPress yet, but I bet it's going to be the same because it seems the limitation is Safari, not the CMS.)
Have you or anyone else with an iPad (or even iPhone) found any workarounds to this? I did search Apple's discussion groups and someone mentioned an app that would allow Safari to locate and update files, but it turns out it's for a jailbroken iPad - I'd rather not go the jailbreak route, if at all possible.
Suggestions, thoughts, random "Apple Sucks" comments, etc. welcome. Thanks everyone!

If you're literally only buying the device for those purposes and none other, I'd just recommend getting a crappy maybe even gently used Netbook. It may not be a shiny new Apple tech but it will suit your purposes for dirt cheap. They're lightweight, have USB slots and Wifi, what more could you want for those purposes? Better than dropping $500+ on tech you won't use for any other purpose.
Have you tried searching the App Store for apps that will allow you to manage your CMS sites? I see 2 different apps for Joomla in the App store. Wordpress has a few apps and Drupal has 1 admin app.
I'd say test the apps via a friend's iPad before making a final purchase decision.
