What to do if you lost your iPhone?

With the iPhone software 3.0 and a mobile me account you don't have to panic if you lose your device:
- You can locate it remotely through your mobile.me account. Just enable Find My iPhone in MobileMe settings on your phone in advance. Then you can log in to me.com from any computer to access Find My iPhone and display your phone’s approximate location on a map.
- Display a message on the lost iPhone. This service allows you to make contact with the person "finding" your phone, so you can negotiate terms of return.
- You can remotely erase data on your iPhone. Addresses, phone numbers, email, photos will all be gone in a second. If you happen to find your phone you will be able to restore all this data from your computer.

To some people, this feature alone makes MobileMe worth it.
MobileMe also uses Push to constantly keep your mail, contacts, and calendar in sync between your phone and computer. You can also share files and backup with iDIsk.
MobileMe costs $99 a year. Go to Apple's website to see what else it does if you're thinking of buying it. You can also try it out for 60 days for free.
if you lose your iPhone/it gets stolen (say you forget it in your car and someone breaks in) this would be worth a $99 payment. much cheaper than another $400 for a new phone.
I really needed something like this about a year ago when I lost my phone. Thankfully it was found and returned to me three days later. I would use it if I ever upgrade my phone, I stil,l have the original iPhone.

Actually I really like this feature (remotely erase data), but there is a question do you think this enough? I don't think it. Why I don't think it? because it will just erase your data from your iPhone by using MobileMe, and your iPhone still losing...
Well, I've a small additional feature. The iPhone developers should start developing iPhone system to be able to stops iPhone system never for ever when it in losing state, in this case when anyone find the iPhone he can't opens it and he will sees an message on your iPhone's monitor, include your own contacts only. Finally when anyone find your iPhone he can't use it for ever, so he hasn't no chose and he will return it to you by calling you or meeting, and you have to give him $25 at least. :)
Finally the developers should thinking for this feature, because it will be helpful for whole iPhone's users and it will be also increase MobileMe users.

You can do that with any phone currently through your operator. They can block the phone from all mobile networks instantly.
Hey Ivan, I know this feature, operators can lock any sim, but I mean this feature plus contacts information on the screen.
I see that a lot of you, like me hate AT&T. It's because of them that I still use the original iPhone. I will never again sign a contract with them.
Also, I have recently discovered that even with a jailbroken iPhone the only other carrier I could go to is T-mobile Because they are the only other ones in the US that use the GSM network which the iPhone needs to work. So that sucks but they are a bit better then AT&T, no?

Hi,just responding to your comment on at&t, I dont know how it is where you are from but her in east Texas att is one of the only cell companies that work really well outside of urban areas. we have ALOT of trees here in Hemphill,Tx. and sprint, verizon, etc have absolutely no coverage outside of the major cities,im sure even right outside of your city. I love that fact, and also it is very convenient that if i just so happened to want to use another phone(like, not wanting to mess my precious iphone on my construction job with dirt, grime, and scratches) that all I have to do is take out my sim and putit in a dollar store att phone til i get off.(Am I the only one who thinks about this when it comes to GSM?) Im just saying,I love it!For those of you who dont live in or around rural areas you may not care about any of this, but for us(and there are ALOT) we appreciate you at&t.
A pretty lame move bundling this into MobileMe, it should be a free feature in iTunes.

If you lose your iphone go out and buy a new one. Chances are that a new model probably has already been released since you lost yours.
You want the new one right?
Of course you do.
