Mac OSX 10.7 Lion to be announced
Ivan | Wed, 2010-10-13 20:32
Judging from the event invitation that will be held on the 20th of October (in just a week) Mac OSX 10.7 will be code named Lion.
What are you counting on or hoping for in Lion? 3D or vector interface? Better use of the mostly idle graphics chips? Opening up OSX for any PC? Brain-Mac APIs?

Lion wasn't even on my radar. Can't wait to see what this is all about!
It would be nice if the UI was updated, even though I think the OS-X UI still looks great. I'd like to see it continue in the direction of Quicktime-X and Aperture (when you are in full screen mode), which can be described as black, glossy, glass.
I'd like for iTunes to receive a complete rewrite, because lord knows it needs it. They could make Aperture suck less, but that's not an OS-X announcement now is it?
Possibly start integrating a touch layer into the OS, I'm fairly certain a touch screen iMac will be a reality sooner or later.
After that I struggle to think of anything that is really lacking, it's a rather mature and in my experience extremely stable system. Maybe work on making the beach ball occur less frequently, there are a lot of people that hate the beach ball and see it a lot more than they should.
I have some pet peeves, like how some disk images mount and open into non-standard finder windows. Then you can click a button on top of the window and it transforms into a normal finder window. I found a lot of novice users get confused and end up linking the application to the dock and then always launching it from the disk image. Removing this non-standard window might elevate this as then there will always be a link to the "Applications" folder on the left.
Interesting that they have almost used the "Back to my Mac" tag, a much touted feature of Leopard which did not really work for most users.
King of the Jungle ay? Time will tell....

I'm holding out for "Ocelot."

Of the additions to the software, I'd imagine Facetime will be integrated with iChat / Photobooth, given how heavily they promote the iOS version.
A Ping feed (or other way of using that) in Safari/Mail seems likely. Urggh!
I'm sure hoping for PC integration...I know this is a real long shot...given the fact that they charge so much for their hardware...I guess they could increase the cost of the OS for PC, to compensate...I'd pay $500 to use it on a PC! Way better than $2000 for a macbook pro, that's obsolete in few years.
And I'm really hoping the next installment is Panda! I know its not a cat...but come on! It'd fit their theme so well!

Obsolete in a few years? I'm working on a G4 powerbook that's 8-1/2 years old. My new Macbook Pro is in the set-up stage now - but even after that one is up I'll be earning money off the G4 every month like clockwork for at least another year or so.
Show me any PC that's viable off the shelf for 3 years - much less a decade.
All of this is silly conjecture!
Windows 7 is soooo far ahead of this stupid toy OS you people use that it's hardly worth mentioning!
... Once you people see the ZunePhone and ZunePad you will give up all of the "mac" silliness for good!
The truth if you can stomach it:

I would like to play iPhone, iPad apps inside our macs.
yes I'm brazilian xD
Wow, that's a really good idea. Perhaps a virtual iPhone and iPad within OSX. It already exists for the developers, it only need connection with iTunes and that's it.
I want a new dashboard like Windows 7 with things on top everytime.
yes I'm brazilian xD
Ivan what do you think Steve want to say with "Back to the Mac"?
He is only trying to say "we don't forget Mac OS X"?
yes I'm brazilian xD
I think he knows Mac fanatics are worried Apple is concentrating on iOS and do not care about OSX no more. He wants to assure us, it's not the case.
MS IS OVER, GAGA
Let's talk about something else please ....

I think Steve Jobs don't need to go off the scene every time other specialist comes to presentation.
It's a waste of energy for our tech god.
Put a Steve Ballmer clone for presentation and the circus is ready

I have a toshiba m300 laptop with vista, and i have virtual box on it. I have a mac os x install dvd and it will not install on virtual box.
