The type seems to be a complete after thought. I would try and fix that first. There are no serious headlines or attempts at hierarchy, and also there is little contrast. You also need more padding on the inside squares of text.

I found it difficult to navigate (then I found the nav bar)
I found there to be no reason to make anything scroll and move around, nade me feel dizzy.

eyecandy does not = good. (wish I had the "does not equal symbol")

Decide what is important, make that the key visual.

Make it easy to navigate, and only use effects that enhance the primary goal of the site, not just because you can.
